Seeing Things and Finding Faces - Face No. 5
This is my fifth and final (for now) face. Another turn of the page in the mop-up journal and this was what I saw:
The sunglasses, the nose, cheek, chin, ear, neck - yes? A few quick scribbles and the face was done. I find that if you use quick sketchy marks, you can get away with mistakes and make adjustments by just adding more quick sketchy marks.
If you've been here for all five faces, thank you very much for your forbearance ;)

Seeing Things and Finding Faces - Face No. 4
Another page turned in the journal, and this one really jumped out at me:
The forehead, they eye sockets, the bridge of the nose, the cheek, chin, neck, yes? Again, a few fast and furious scribbles with the pen, and there it was. DH is convinced I was being guided by The Other Side. Ha :)

I've got one more to show you tomorrow, then that's it. Until I get another visitation... ;)

Seeing Things and Finding Faces - Face No. 3
Another page turned in my journal, and another face jumped out at me. On the right-hand page. Can you see the eye sockets? The white bridge of the nose? A cheek?
Again, I took pen straight to paper, and within a minute the face was drawn. I'm entering this into the following galleries:

Seeing Things and Finding Faces - Face No. 2
This is my third post today, sorry for bombarding you!
Click here for my STAMPlorations blog hop post, featuring my latest design, FolkFlowers.
Click here for my Seize the Birthday post.
After seeing my first face yesterday, I turned the page in my notebook and saw this:
Can you see the sunglasses? The tip of the nose? The profile of the cheek? A hint of mouth? It's a bit like those colourblind pictures - can you see the hidden image?
I'm entering today's face into the following galleries:

Seeing Things and Finding Faces - Face No .1
Paper Artsy's current challenge is all about drawing faces. Leandra has put up a comprehensive post, chock-full of inspiration and links to videos and online classes. The emphasis is on having a go, and letting go of the idea that your drawing should be perfect. I can go with that!
So, what to work on? I have a little notebook/journal that I made last year, and so far the only thing I've done with it is use it to mop up excess Distress Inks. I thought I'd start in that because, being A6, it's not too intimidating. I started looking through the pages, and one of the shapes looked like a male profile. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before I started scribbling, but if you look at the face, you can see where I followed the profile line of the darker shape.
Here's a look after I started drawing the face but before stamping. I didn't use pencil, went straight in at the deep end with black 0.3 fineliner pen. Somehow I find it easier to draw with pen. Scary, I know!
And a look at the double-page. I've added a pen in the photo for scale.
One I started looking through the notebook, I kept seeing faces - spooky! I'll post some more over the next few days.
ETA: I'm also adding this to Kim Dellow's Show Your Face gallery.

Blue Flower Canvas
I have several box canvases in my attic that I bought at bargain prices years ago, hoping that I would actually use them one day. Well, this week I took the plunge and slapped some paint on one, after being inspired by this post by Ellen Vargo at Paper Artsy.
Ellen's canvas |
I've been dying to play along with Darnell's NBUS challenge, but everything I've made lately has been with used schtuff rather than NBUS. But that has now been rectified thanks to the languishing canvas. It now hangs in my craft room, as it matches the colour scheme - by coincidence rather than design!

Vellum Butterfly
Today I've been playing with vellum. It popped up at Paper Artsy with this gorgeous card by Keren,
Keren's card for Paper Artsy |
I used Polyfilla (spackle) and a Tim Holtz stencil to create the base and left it to dry. Then I stamped the images in Versamark and heat-embossed them in white, then coloured the reverse of the vellum with markers and cut them out. Then I went to the hairdressers. When I came back the butterfly had curled up on itself like those free gifts you used to get in comics where you laid a thin plastic cut-out image on your hand and the heat from your hand made it curl up. Remember them? Oh, yes you do. So some extra-strong double-sided sticky was required to pin the butterfly down on the card.
I added some Brushed Pewter Distress Paint on the Polyfilla to reflect the silver on her shoes, sponged the edges of the card with Antique Linen, and partially stamped the numbers (Tim Holtz) and stain (STAMPlorations) in Versafine Smoky Grey and added a few grey credit card makes. Added a few self-adhesive pearls and a part-sentiment (Hero Arts).
The challenge at CAS on Sunday is Butterfly,
and the challenge at Mixed Media Monthly is Stencils and Paste.

Three's A Fun Crowd
I was a lucky random winner on the Paper Artsy blog last week, and chose the Hot Picks 1207 because I could just see the images in a Warholesque way. So here they are. These girls look like they'll be having a fun road trip. I used the colours from ColourQ (love those colours - may be back for another pop at them):
I was also inspired to make a kraft card inspired by Joanne Wardle's post at Paper Artsy. Couldn't resist adding some white highlights, though.

JOFY Bouquet
This is my third offering for Paper Artsy this week (they'll be thinking I'm stalking them). This card was inspired by Jan McGregor's card using JOFY stamps, and I've not played with my JOFY stamps for a while so I thought I'd join in.
I'm using the colours from ColourQ as a guide.
My background is made from Mowed Lawn and Broken China Distress Paints, with a swipe of Picket Fence Distress Stain over the top. The Picket Fence was originally through a stencil, but it was too wet and mushy and leaked under the stencil so I swooshed it over the panel with my fingers. The stencil had loads of Distress Stain on it so I used it as a stamp instead. The flowers are watercoloured with Distress Inks. I added some Frantage embossing powder, Stickles and a hand-written sentiment, and drew a border with marker pen and Signo pen.
I've added a bow, so I can play along with Keep It Simple:
Also, don't forget about the new Mixed Media Card Challenge here :)

Celebrate With One Layer
This month's One Layer Simplicity Challenge, chosen by Heather, is Wave The Flag. Heather (an Aussie living in Canada) made two cards, one for each country's flag. I've made one card for two countries' flags, because I've got dual nationality (UK/Australia):
Quite convenient for this card! The card was inspired by Keren Baker's card which was showcased on the Paper Artsy blog.
I'm also entering it into CAS On Sunday where the challenge is One Layer Wonder
Stamps: STAMPlorations Vignette: Celebrate Artsy and Sentiment Builders: Celebrate.

Tag Time
Today is Tag Day, well for me at least. This first tag was inspired by Keren Baker's distress ink stencil tag on the Paper Artsy blog. I went for red and blue, and before I knew it, I was making a Union Jack tag. Very patriotic. So it fits nicely with the new Mixed Media Mojo Challenge - patriotic. And it's my final entry into Winnie & Walter's Share The Love week with Distress Inks - Tag It.
With this second tag I'm playing at the new Tag, You're It challenge, where the inspiration comes from Virginia Lu.
I went for the same colour combination and added black flowers. And because I used one of my Dina Wakley birds, I can also enter it into Just Us Girls, where it's a word challenge - Bird.
********************
I'm over on the STAMPlorations blog today for a Spotlight feature using the cake stamp, gelatos and embossing paste if you want to pop over for a look.

Flower Man
I'm playing along at Paper Artsy, with a card inspired by this canvas by Liesbeth Fiddler. Mine's nowhere near as detailed as Liesbeth's, but there's still plenty going on. I primed a piece of card with gesso before colouring with yellow and green gelatos (thanks for the tip, Jenny - it worked a treat!). Stamped several Paper Artsy images, and stamped the flower on separate card, coloured, cut out and added Glossy Accents to the centre, then mounted it with foam dots. I used a white gel pen to highlight one of the letters and wink of stella on the wings and his boots, and scribbled some blue paint in places.
Don't forget about the new Mixed Media Card Challenge - a touch of nature.
